Il 25 Dicembre 1982 David Bowie in duetto con Bing Crosby raggiungeva la terza posizione nella classifica del Regno Unito con Peace On Earth – Little Drummer Boy.
Il brano natalizio Little Drummer Boy nel 1941, mentre il controcanto di Bowie, scritto da Fraser, Larry Grossman e Alan Kohan, per l’occasione.
A Bowie fu infatti proposto di duettare con Crosby su Little Drummer Boy nello spettacolo Bing Crosby’s Merrie Olde Christmas sul tema “Natale in Inghilterra”. Tuttavia la canzone non lo convinceva:
And when we told Bowie about the number, he said ‘I won’t sing that song… I hate that song. And if I have to do that song, I can’t do the show.

We decided the best way to salvage the arrangement was to do a counter-melody that would fit in between the spaces and maybe write a new bridge, and see if we can sell him that.

Durante lo show erano presenti anche i figli di Crosby, che ricordano l’incredibile apparizione di Bowie accanto al padre.
“That first moment when he walked in, it’s etched in my memory”, dice Mary Crosby. “You should have seen the way he was dressed in rehearsal”, aggiunge Nathaniel Crosby, il figlio più piccolo di Bing . “It almost didn’t happen. And I think the producers told him to take the lipstick off and take the earring out.”
“But then they sat at the piano”, continua Mary Crosby. “David was a little nervous, and he said, ‘Well, I only sing in this key.’ And Dad’s like, ‘Don’t worry. I’ll get in there somehow.'”
Poi il momento dello show:
“And then you could just see it happening. Dad realized that David was this amazing musician, and David realized that he was with this amazing musician and that they were there to make music”, racconta ancora Mary. “And you could just see them both collectively relax, and then magic was made. And I do think it is one of the most extraordinary duets still.”
Il brano fu registrato l’11 settembre 1977 e pubblicato il 27 novembre 1982 dalla RCA, con il dialogo tra Crosby e Bowie prima della canzone.
Con vendite inaspettate (250.000 copie il primo mese e con un totale stimato di 400 mila copie nel Regno Unito, è uno dei 45 giri di Bowie più venduti in assoluto) presto divenne un classico di Natale in Canada, Stati Uniti e Regno Unito.
